Held an International Symposium on Sea Turtle Conservation in the South China Sea in Malaysia

 From 1st to 3rd June, 2009, the International Symposium on Sea Turtle Conservation, jointly organized by Hainan Normal University and University Malaysia Terengganu, the International Foundation for Marine Research (IFMR), the Coral Reef Programme of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the IUCN Turtle Specialist Group (TEG), was held in Terengganu, Malaysia. The seminar mainly focused on the current status of sea turtle conservation in Southeast Asian waters, and provided insights into the methods of sea turtle conservation, as well as the capture of sea turtles in this body of water, and the places of origin of the fishing boats and fishermen who capture sea turtles, in order to strengthen the cooperation among Southeast Asian countries in sea turtle conservation and research. Experts from China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries made reports on the conference and reached a consensus that the endangerment of sea turtles in Southeast Asian waters is becoming more and more serious, and that sea turtle conservation is international and requires joint efforts from Southeast Asian countries to strengthen cooperation and assistance efforts in sea turtle conservation.
