On 29 August 2017, Reference Information Network (RIN) reported that CNN published an article on 28 August entitled "Can Rare Sea Turtles Return to China's Hainan Island? It is an article about the sea turtle rescue station at Hainan Normal University, which promotes the rescue and protection of sea turtles. With the huge human demand for sea turtle meat and shells, sea turtles have stopped coming to Hainan to lay their eggs in the last 30 years. According to Professor Shi Haitao of Hainan Normal University, going back in history, Hainan is the home of sea turtles and they should come back. Hainan Normal University has partnered with 911 International Turtle Rescue to set up a turtle laboratory in Lingshui Village and a turtle sanctuary at the Ritz-Carlton Sanya Hotel in Yalong Bay, so that tourists visiting these locations can see turtles up close and personal. 911 International Turtle Rescue founders Frederick Yeh and Shi Haitao hope to help the public by spreading awareness, raising tourist's consciousness of animal protection, and saving lives. By educating the public, raising awareness among tourists and rescuing and releasing captured turtles, they hope to bring these creatures back to Hainan Island. For Shi, his dream has always been to pass on his passion for animal conservation to others, from hotel guests to visitors to the lab and, of course, to his students. He says, "Even if they go on to other jobs that may have nothing to do with wildlife conservation, I think their knowledge in this area, their awareness of animal conservation, will have an impact on their lives."
