On 15 December 2017, Tencent Video reported on the work of the sea turtle rescue station at Hainan Normal University. The interview was conducted by Associate Professor Lin Liu of the School of Life Sciences at Hainan Normal University, who has been engaged in scientific research on sea turtle rescue as well as conservation. Sea turtles are critical to the marine ecosystem and are a flagship species for conservation. However, due to relatively little attention, sea turtles are currently under threat. Since 2008, Hainan Normal University (HNU) has been involved in the rescue of sea turtles in collaboration with Turtle 911, and in 2013, HNU set up the only sea turtle rescue station at a university in China. In the rescue station, volunteers take good care of the turtles, regularly changing seawater and brushing their shells to ensure a comfortable living environment. Once the rescued turtles meet the conditions for release, the volunteers will release them back to the sea.
