On 15 February 2021, the Hainan Normal University Sea Turtle Rescue Station held a ‘Turtle Visiting’ activity, in which many enthusiastic environmentalists came to the rescue station to visit the rescued sea turtles up close. Li Bo, a well-known wildlife conservationist in Hainan, enthusiastically introduced the only red sea turtle in the rescue station. The injured turtles were brought back to the rescue station and eventually recovered after careful care and treatment by the staff. On the last day before the Spring Festival, Li Bo led volunteers to rescue a turtle with a broken right front ‘arm’ on the coast of Dongzhai Harbour in Haikou. Li Bo introduced, as China's only tropical island, Hainan Island is the main habitat of the turtle reproduction. With the destruction of human beings on the beach, sea turtle nesting sites are increasingly eroded. Therefore, it is urgent to increase the protection of sea turtles. On that day, many citizens were visiting the lovely sea turtles with their children. Through this visit, the public will recognise the importance of protecting sea turtles and raise the public's awareness of caring for the marine environment and protecting marine life.
