On 1 March 2019, Haikou Net announced that Hainan's ‘Turtles’ Way to Home' Volunteer Service Project has been awarded the advanced model of learning from Lei Feng's volunteer service “Homecoming”. According to reports, by the Central Propaganda Department and other units jointly organized by the 2018 Lei Feng volunteer service ‘four Top100’ advanced typical, Hainan Normal University, College of Life Sciences ‘Turtles’ Way to Home’ turtle protection professional volunteer service project was selected as the best volunteer service project, is the only volunteer service project in Hainan Province won the award. It is reported that ‘Turtles’ Way to Home’ sea turtle protection professional volunteer service project was established in 2013, by the Hainan Normal University Turtle Research and Conservation Centre and 911 International Sea Turtle Rescue Organization jointly created. They set up the only ‘Turtle Museum’ in the country, dedicated to the rescue and protection of sea turtles in the South China Sea and public education. Since the establishment of the project, 78 sea turtles have been rescued, more than 800 volunteers have been trained, more than 10,500 hours of service have been provided, 23 large-scale publicity activities on sea turtle protection have been held, and nearly 1,000 pieces of confiscated sea turtle products have been identified by law enforcement agencies. The work of the project has received widespread social attention, and has won the ‘Hainan Normal University Volunteer Service Project Competition Gold Medal’, ‘Hainan Provincial Volunteer Service Project Competition Gold Medal’, ‘Hainan Provincial Volunteer Service Excellence Project Creation Activities Nomination Award ‘China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition Gold Award’ and many other honors.
