On 19 December 2018, Hainan Daily reported that Hainan Normal University turtle rescue station ‘rescue sea turtles, we are in action’. It is reported that Hainan Normal University's ‘Turtles’ Way to Home’ sea turtle protection volunteer service project won the gold medal at the Fourth China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition. Hainan Normal University ‘Turtles’ Way to Home’ sea turtle protection volunteer service project was established in 2013, by the Hainan Normal University Turtle Research and Conservation Centre and 911 International Turtle Rescue Organization co-founded, is committed to the South China Sea region turtle rescue and protection and public education. Since its establishment, the volunteer service programme has rescued 78 sea turtles, trained more than 800 volunteers and provided more than 10,000 hours of service; it has also organised 23 large-scale publicity activities on sea turtle conservation and pushed out scientific articles to the public through WeChat official account. According to Dr. Lin Liu of the Turtle Research and Protection Centre of Hainan Normal University, the Hainan Normal University Turtle Rescue Station is currently rescuing 21 turtles, including green, hawksbill and red turtles, which will be released to the sea one after another after being cured. These turtles are confiscated by law enforcement or sent by the public to save.
