On 9 June 2021, Shao Hong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Executive Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society (JSS), and Mao Wanchun, Chairman of the CPPCC of Hainan Province, and his entourage came to Hainan Normal University (HNU) to investigate marine ecological protection.

Shao Hong and his entourage visited the Hainan Provincial Biodiversity Museum and Hainan Normal University turtle rescue station and other places. Professor Shi Haitao, turtle ecologist and vice president of Hainan Normal University, briefly introduced the overview of the ecology discipline in the College of Life Sciences and the training of talents. At the Sea Turtle Rescue Station, Prof Shi highlighted the sea turtle protection and research projects carried out by the School of Life Sciences. Shao Hong positively praised the achievements of Hainan Normal University in marine ecological protection and research, and hoped that the school can continue to carry out in-depth research to provide assistance for the construction of Hainan's ecological civilisation, and provide more powerful talents and intellectual support for national and local economic and social development. At the end of the visit, Shao Hong for the museum message ‘I feel like entering a valuable forest, this station will benefit the entire academic community and students’ as encouragement.
