The 15th National Symposium on Wildlife Ecology and Resource Conservation was successfully held from 17-20 November 2019 in Haikou, Hainan Province. The Key Laboratory of Tropical Island Ecology of the Ministry of Education (Hainan Normal University) and the School of Life Sciences of Hainan Normal University, as the organisers, actively led the teachers and students into this conference. Prof Diao Xiaoping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee of Hainan Normal University, and Director of the Key Laboratory of Tropical Island Ecology of the Ministry of Education, delivered a speech on behalf of the organisers. Prof Shi Haitao, Vice President of Hainan Normal University, also came to the conference for guidance and communication, and made an invited report on ‘Research and Conservation of Turtles and Soft-shelled Turtles in China’. The report followed the theme of wildlife ecology and resource conservation, and the participants got a better understanding of the progress of ecological conservation and provided new ideas for future research. Five ‘Outstanding Young Animal Ecologists’ were selected by the conference, namely, Huang Zheng from Nanjing Normal University, Ding Li from Hainan Normal University, Li Chunlin from Anhui University, Han Han from Xihua Normal University, and Li Huan from Lanzhou University. Professor Wang Jichao, Vice Dean of the School of Life Sciences of Hainan Normal University, made a speech on behalf of the organiser at the closing ceremony, and the conference was successfully concluded in laughter.
