Male, Han nationality, born in August, 1963 in Xinjiang, originally from Shandong. Graduated from Beijing Normal University in 1995 with a PhD degree in Ecology, and has been teaching at Hainan Normal University since June, 1995.

Profession and Job Description

       Mainly engaged in the teaching and scientific research of zoology, ecology and conservation biology, focusing on the ecology, classification and conservation of reptile turtles, as well as the research of ecological civilization governance system and governance capacity, such as the concept of wildlife protection, law and policy, law enforcement and management, and institutional mechanism. Has published more than 260 papers in Science, Nature and other journals, more than 20 books and textbooks, and has presided over and completed more than 40 domestic and international scientific research projects, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China's major international cooperation projects, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and international cooperation.

Pioneered the research and protection of turtle ecology in China and formulated the Action Plan for the Conservation of Turtles in China, which promotes the overall progress of conservation research, talent training, law enforcement and management, and capacity building of turtles and soft-shelled turtles in China.

Brought all turtle species in China under the protection of the Convention on International Trade in Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), effectively stopping illegal import and export trade. Participated in and promoted the revision of the new Chinese Wildlife Protection Law, which strengthened the protection of wildlife. Actively promoted the inclusion of the vast majority of Chinese turtles and soft-shelled turtles into the list of national key protected species, upgraded the protection level, and promoted protection according to the law. Revealed the ineffective management of protected areas and even the existence of supervision and theft, and promoted the improvement of the effectiveness of protection and management. Corrected the misconceptions of traditional Chinese culture about the nutritional value of turtles and tortoises, and promoted the protection of wildlife, including turtles and tortoises, by eliminating superstitions and stereotypes from culture and consumption habits. Retrieved the Chinese version of the Chinese Trade Turtle Retrieval Illustrated Guide was compiled with new ideas and methods of image, which has been downloaded for free from domestic websites for more than 1 million copies. The English version of Identification Manual for Turtle Conservation in China is used in 120 foreign countries, downloaded free of charge from 30 foreign CITES official websites, and translated into different languages such as Bengali. It has been widely used in international turtle law enforcement identification, conservation management, business training and scientific popularization. Conducted more than 400 free species identification for China Customs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the State Forestry Administration and various provinces and cities across the country, and carried out more than 170 training and lectures, which have played an important role in combating illegal trade and improving law enforcement capacity and conservation awareness. Created a research team specializing in turtle and soft-shelled turtle conservation, which guided the students to win the China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award, the National University Students' "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team", the University Students' "Challenge Cup" Progressive Innovation Silver Prize, the National Best Volunteer Service Project Award, the Gold Prize of China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition, and 11 other national awards, China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition Gold Award and other 11 national awards and honors. In the past ten years, the team has been ranked first in the international turtle field in terms of the number, quality and influence of papers.
