Profession and Job Description
Mainly engaged in research on the conservation biology of endangered turtles in China. In recent years, I have led multiple projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Hainan Provincial Natural Science Foundation, the Hainan Provincial Higher Education Teaching Reform and Research Project, and horizontal projects. Published over 30 academic papers on turtles and turtles in journals such as PNAS, iScience, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Ecology and Evolution.
Systematically conducting field ecology and conservation genetics research on endangered turtles, a new species of the eye spotted water turtle genus, Hainan four eyed water turtle, and a natural hybrid species, Zhaoqing four eyed water turtle, were discovered. The eye spotted water turtle genus was divided into seven significant evolutionary units, enriching the species and subspecies level diversity of the eye spotted water turtle genus and enhancing its uniqueness in conservation. A series of studies have been carried out in the the Xisha Islands for a long time on the green sea turtle, a national level protected animal. It is found that the green sea turtle in the the Xisha Islands is an independent geographical population. Finding out the pollution status and causes of heavy metals, plastics and micro plastics in the green sea turtle spawning ground in the the Xisha Islands has important guiding significance for improving the protection status of the the Xisha Islands sea turtle population and strengthening the management of the turtle habitat; Through satellite tracking, the important habitat of green sea turtles in the South China Sea has been revealed, providing technological support for the establishment of sea turtle conservation areas and marine national parks; A molecular detection system has been developed to quickly determine the parent-child relationship and birthplace of sea turtles in response to the increasing demand for sea turtles and illegal trade in China's aquariums and aquariums. This technology plays an important role in strengthening the management of sea turtle artificial breeding and combating illegal trade.
Actively utilizing professional advantages to carry out social service work such as turtle rescue and science popularization. Participated in the establishment of the first turtle rescue station in domestic universities, which has rescued over 500 turtles in the past decade, trained more than 900 volunteers, and provided over 100000 hours of volunteer service. Organized more than 200 turtle science popularization activities, with an audience of over 1.5 million people. Published over 100 turtle science popularization articles through various platforms and self media. Guiding students in the volunteer service work of sea turtle conservation has won multiple national and provincial honors, including the "Gold Award of the 4th China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition", "Four 100 Advanced Models of National Lei Feng Volunteer Service - Best Volunteer Service Project", "Silver Award of the 4th China Youth Volunteer Service Public Welfare Entrepreneurship Competition", "Excellent Project Award of the 12th China Youth Volunteer", and "Advanced Model of National Science and Technology Volunteer Service in 2023". The Sea Turtle Conservation Association, established based on the Sea Turtle Rescue Station, has been awarded the title of "National Excellent Team for College Student Science and Technology Volunteer Service Demonstration".
